Common Pop-up Structures
While elaborate pop-up books can be impressive, most movable designs are built using a few reliable and widely used mechanisms:

Step Fold (Layer Fold)
Multiple paper layers fold out in sequence, creating depth.

Tent Fold
Forms a simple upright triangle, ideal for stable and balanced pop-up displays.

V-fold Pop-up
A "V" shaped fold makes an image rise automatically when the page is opened.

Parallel Fold (Box Fold)
Creates box-like or step-shaped structures.
If you don’t see the mechanism you’re looking for, please contact us to discuss your specific requirements.
Pop Up Book Sizes
Pop-up books offer a unique opportunity to break free from traditional book sizes and create truly captivating and immersive experiences. At Hemeiprinting, we understand that the size of your pop-up book plays a crucial role in its overall impact and appeal.
While there are no standard sizes for pop-up books, some common sizes that we frequently produce include:
8 x 8 inches
6 x 6 inches
7.5 x 10 inches
These sizes offer a balance between portability and ample space for intricate pop-up designs, catering to a wide range of audiences and preferences. To cater different client’s needs, we provide custom size options.
Binding Options for Pop-up Books
Because pop-up books need strong, stable binding to support interactive paper structures, we usually recommend layflat board book binding or hardcover board book binding.

Pop Up Book File Specifications
It is important to understand how to prepare your finished digital files for printing. Here are a few useful tips to help you when preparing files to be printed.

Add a 0.125" bleed to all pages

Convert color from RGB to CMYK

Use 300 DPI resolution

Export files in PDF format
Other tips:
1. Dielines, also known as die cut lines or die lines. They are essential for accurately defining the various cuts, folds, and creases required for the intricate pop-up elements in your book. These lines act as a guide for our production team, ensuring that each pop-up component is precisely cut and folded to create the desired three-dimensional effects.
We require that all dielines be provided as separate, vector-based files, clearly indicating the locations and types of cuts and folds required. This information is crucial for our team to accurately interpret and execute the pop-up mechanisms, ensuring that your book functions as intended.
2. If you artwork include other elements, such as foil stamping, spot uv, deboss, etc, it’s essential to provide separate designs for each interactive element. To make sure that our team can accurately reproduce and assemble these unique features during the production process.
By separating these components into individual files, our production team can more easily identify and isolate each element, ensuring precise execution and assembly. This approach also allows for greater flexibility and customization. As individual components can be adjusted or modified without affecting the entire design.
